2024 Guilin Art Festival Recommended Plays: KISH KUSH from Italy
“Kish-Kush” is a theatrical production that explores cultural and linguistic differences through an imaginative and playful encounter. Using sounds, shadows, and symbolic objects, two characters break barriers to achieve mutual understanding
Created and directed by Daniel Gol, “Kish-Kush” is a unique theatrical production starring Giuseppe Palesciano and Ettore Chiummo. This work delves into the universal themes of cultural and linguistic differences through the art of theater.
Set in an imaginary neutral space, the story features two contrasting characters: one speaks a gibberish blend of Hebrew and Arabic, while the other uses Italian (or, depending on the version, English, French, or Spanish). With minimal dialogue, the narrative unfolds through sounds, shadows, and symbolic objects.
As the story progresses, the two characters confront their differences and gradually tear down a delicate paper wall that symbolizes their barriers. Through moments of silence and discovery, “Kish-Kush” emerges as a creative symphony of cross-cultural encounter.
